• Description:
• The Mechelen-aan-de-Maas cemetery, the largest in the municipality and currently the only one that has not yet been completely greened, will be redesigned into the 'Mechelen aan de Maas Reflection Park. This project fits within the broader vision on greening, rewilding and future-oriented cemetery management and aims to create a serene, park-like environment where farewell, peace and nature go together, while simultaneously paying attention to future needs within the funeral practice. Overview of activities De Redevelopment includes: - the softening and greening of the existing cemetery; - the construction of an expansion zone and the design of additional rest and reflection areas. Space is also provided for: new urn fields, renovated ones columbarium walls - for the first time above-ground burials in ealerii graves in Maasmechelen; - an extensive and upgraded ashes scattering meadow with a uniform memorial column. In addition, the existing children's area will be redesigned into a nurturing meadow. This cherishing meadow is designed as a serene and accessible place where farewell and grieving are central. In a natural and child-friendly environment, children who have been confronted with the loss of a brother, sister, boyfriend, girlfriend or other loved ones the space to experience and process their grief.
