  • Description:
  • Within the Territorial Development Program (T.Op) area development process, we aim for the start -up of an assignment around the approach to upstream buffering of sediment and water in the Dender basin. The erosion sensitivity of the Dender basin is great. In the case of Piekneezlag, erosion together with flooding is a common problem. Source -oriented measures are necessary to prevent soil erosion on the plots and thus protect the soil quality. In addition, buffering measures are needed to reduce the supply from sediment to watercourses and to drain the water less quickly. Nevertheless, we note that on the one hand source-oriented erosion control measures on erosion-sensitive plots and on the other hand the design of buffer infrastructure in places with increased water and sediment drainage are left behind. The evaluation of the Flemish erosion policy (2022) also showed that, although the various instruments for erosion control are effective (conditionality, eco controls, VLIF support, erosion decision), insufficient measures are still being implemented on the site. As a result, the risk of soil loss as a result of erosion is around 38,000 ha in ...
