Description:
The Vierendeel L25 bridge over the Leuvensevaart in Mechelen is an isostatic riveted metal railway bridge with two tracks which was built in the period 1933-1935 and is part of a set of four original Vierendeel bridges. The bridge is classified as architectural heritage and must berenovated as part of the Mechelen master plan.
On the one hand, the bridge is badly rusted, requiring the replacement of a large number of elements such as bracing and support profiles. On the other hand, the original solid roller bearings also requirehe structural repairs.
In addition, the bridge must be adapted to current standards, which involves the renewal of the upper bracing and the complete renewal of the service tracks and track supports. Finally, an abutment with cracks will be structurally repaired and repaired.reinforced by means of post-tensioning bars and a reinforced concrete wall.
