Description:
The oldest reservoir of De Watergroep on the site of the Drinking Water Production Center Kluizen in Evergem was commissioned in 1973. It has an area of 60 ha and a volume of 6,400,000 m³. The 13 m high circumferential dikes are located above ground level and constructed from sprayed sand. via leaks in the PE foil (with a thickness of only 0.25 mm), up to 5,000 m³ of surface water flows out of the reservoir every day.
This foil must be replaced over the entire surface of the basin by an HDPE geomembrane (in combination with a leak detection system). To serve this purposethe stone covering materials on the inner slopes must be removed, sieved and replaced and the sand layer on the bottom mixed with phosphate-rich sludge must be replaced.
The demolition and construction of several concrete structures, the installation of several water pipes as well asThe roads in and around the reservoir are an integral part of the assignment. The environmental permit (based on the accompanying project EIA) will be applied for at the end of November 2022.
The renovation works are expected to be carried out from mid-2023 to mid-2026.
