The transmission of electricity by submarine cables, such as those used in offshore wind farms (OWF), introduces electromagnetic fields (EMC) into the environment. The shielded and grounded cables do not directly transmit electric fields, but they create magnetic fields and can also induce electric fields, which interact with the local environment. The intensity of these fields enters the field of detection of electromagnetically sensitive species (for example, elasmobranches, crustaceans, molluscs, sea turtles). Although several studies have been carried out on the effects of EMC on the behavior of marine organisms, the effect on their reproductive biology is still unknown.
