- The KCE has already published three reports on proton therapy. Since the last report in 2019, the scientific evidence base has been further developed and the results of several new studies on various types of tumours, including the first randomised controlled trials (RCTs), have been published. These new data provide an opportunity to gain a better understanding of the clinical indications in which proton therapy can offer significant benefits. At the same time, the Belgian reimbursement framework has changed. These procedural changes, combined with the emergence of new clinical evidence, now make it necessary to reassess the current indications for proton therapy.
