- Since 1875, the world-famous horse-drawn carriages (rental carriages) have been driving through the city of Bruges in order to give tourists and other interested parties the opportunity to discover the historic city center and the beautiful Unesco world heritage of Bruges in a "romantic" way. For reasons of public order, rest and safety, such rental coach round races can only be organized by a natural or legal person who has obtained an (exploitation) permit for a rental coach. This permit will, if the conditions are met for this, is granted in advance and in writing by the mayor of the city of Bruges and is required for every rental coach deployed to set up the tours. The total number of permits that can be granted is also limited because of public order, tranquility and public and road safety. A maximum of thirteen (13) permits can be granted, so that a maximum of thirteen (13) rental carriages can also be operated in the city.
