  • Nitrate fertilizers are effective fertilizers that can be used widely in agriculture due to their high nitrogen content and rapid absorption by plants. However, the use, storage and transport of nitrate fertilizers requires careful handling and compliance with safety instructions, to minimize risks for both people and the environment. Most mineral inorganic fertilizers are not classified as dangerous. The intrinsic properties have an influence on the hazard aspects. The nitrate fertilizers marketed are therefore often classified as an oxidizing (fire -promoting) in accordance with CLP. Several large-scale accidents have already occurred in history (including Faversham-1916, Oppau-1921, Tessenderlo-1942, Texas City-1947). As a result, various measures were taken worldwide over time. For example, the risk of detonation is prevented by treating some forms of nitrate fertilizers in detonation resistant. In normal circumstances, the effects of detonation should not occur.
