- This assignment is part of the following general objective of the Environmental Effects team, as included in our draft memorandum External Safety. Here specifically in the context of the Environmental Safety Knowledge Network. Although nitrate fertilizers have been treated as detonation -resistant, these recent incidents show that large -scale explosions still prevent. This investigation wants to find out which circumstances lead to such large -scale incidents, which safety measures must be taken, which of these safety measures have already been described in regulations and best practices, and which safety measures may be missing. In order to be able to answer these questions, it is important to know which forms or variants of nitrate fertilizers can be present in Flanders and how these products are stored and transported. Other questions ask themselves are, among other things: are the same measures applied in the context of transit of these nitrate fertilizers as with products that are marketed in the EU?
