- In recent years, work has been done on nature recovery and water management in the Kloosterbeemden area. In the context of the soil remediation project Winterbeek -Kloosterbeemden (phase 4), the historical contamination with salts and heavy metals was tackled. At the same time, the preconditions were created for a sustainable design as a natural marsh area, which can also be enabled for water buffering. Subsequently, measures were taken in implementation of the SIGMA project Demervallei for the humeral of the Demer and increasing the groundwater levels in Kloosterbeemden. A permanent reduction in the Demerdijk was implemented along which can be buffered in Kloosterbeemden at high water drainage on the Demer Water, three meanders were connected and a low -water threshold was installed in the Demer that ensures an increase in the base water level on the Demer and therefore also the average lowest groundwater levels. The Tuimeldijk and Jaagpad was also excavated locally on the right bank so that a better connection is created between the river and the valley at high water level.
