• GAC_2025_03663 - 1 The City of Antwerp has set up the Sun on Large Roofs (ZOGD) project, with the aim of making major progress in achieving the objectives regarding solar energy. After all, the City of Antwerp has the ambition in its 2030 Climate Plan included to realize additional photovoltaic installations throughout the territory. Currently, a lot of solar potential on large roofs is still untapped. A study was conducted to identify the barriers to achieving this stand in the way of potential. Based on this research, the 'solar broker' was proposed as an instrument to overcome these obstacles. The solar broker aims to activate, support and relieve owners of large roofs realizing the solar potential on their roofs. On top of this existing complexity, the additional fast-growing problem of grid congestion is now coming into the picture. Hence the choice to expand the scope of the solar broker to a broader one systems approach. The main goal remains to maximize PV installations on large roofs in Antwerp, but at the same time the solar broker is taking an active role in tackling grid congestion and other relevant system barriers and preconditions that can limit the growth of renewable energy and the electrification of organizations.
