- Japanese Knotweed (Fallopia japonica), an invasive exotic plant, is found in various locations within the city of Antwerp. After a successful pilot project last year, the landscaping department wishes to continue the electric control of Japanese Knotweed in a small, isolated location.ies. The plants must be controlled with at least 3000 Volts. The purpose of this electric shock is that it travels through the plant to the root. The heat released will bring the root of the plant to a boiling point, causing the roots to die. No damage is allowedwere planted in the immediate vicinity of the Japanese Knotweed
