Description:
The Agency for Nature and Forest (ANB) is the owner and manager of numerous water -rich areas in the 5 eastern management regions of Flanders. These areas contain typical, and also vulnerable, habitats that are threatened by all kinds of factors, such as the current climate problem (see "Drying"), the fragmentation of habitats, the disappearance of historical management forms, etc. That is why the ANB does everything to repair and perpetuate such areas in accordance with European nature objectives, type of protection programs and nature management plans. Includes the ecological maintenance management of water-rich areas that, in the Flemish context, often consist of a network of water bodies such as (former) fish breeding or weekend ponds, natural fens and pins used by cattle. Heath areas and grassland complexes and, in addition to filling in an ecological niche, ensure numerous habitatpic species for supplementing local and regional groundwater levels.
