Delivery and installation of a dynamic hot air dryer for drying microalgae and insects for the Radius research group.
Radius is a unique research group that was created through the collaboration between the Agro-Bio Technology, Chemistry and Biomedical Laboratory Techniques programs ofThomas More University.
Radius combines these diverse expertises with sustainable development.
This makes it the only research group in Flanders that focuses on both the cultivation of biomass and its extraction and modification into bio-based chemicals.
This happens both on lab-as a pilot scale.
Radius has expertise in:
-Cultivation of insects and microalgae
-Extraction of bio-based chemicals
-Pilot-scale separation techniques
-Characterization of biomass, nutrient media and residual flows for insect and algae cultivation
-Modelling (in silico models) in the predictedn of physicochemical and (eco)toxic properties
Components are extracted from the insects and microalgae, for use in (livestock) food and applied products.
In the context of these necessary analyses, investments are being made in a dynamic hot air dryer with the aim of:
-Drying insects and microalgae, where:
oThe insects can be whole or in powder or paste form
oThe microalgae consist of a paste
