Description:
The municipality of Grimbergen sees a new future for the Sint-Amandskerk in its district of Strombeek-Bever. The ambition is to establish a library and also maintain a liturgical space for worship services. The current library building on Gemeenteplein has become too smalland is no longer adapted to the needs of the library of the future. Today, library visitors do much more than just borrow books. They walk by to read newspapers or magazines, consult the internet or visit an exhibition. Young people want creative spaces (such as eand fablab) or study places. The library of the future is about people, encounters and experiences. The new library in the church must therefore function as a living room and meeting place. It must radiate peace and homeliness, stimulate chance encounters and a diverse audienceto address. Due to its central location, the church is the ideal location for the new library. The relationship of the building with other municipal facilities and public space is very important. The church is located on Sint-Amandsplein, which was redeveloped a few years ago,partly as a parking lot. South of the church is the parsonage with garden, owned by the church factory. Part of this garden can be used as a reading garden for the library. To the west of the church are the Van Der Noot Park and the local Ter Borre service center, with a spacious multi-purpose room....
