Description:
Thomas More Kempen vzw installed 900 solar panels in 2021 on its campus in Turnhout, in collaboration with Campina Energie. With a peak power of 404.95 KWP, this installation yielded approximately 390 MWh of solar energy in 2022. Of these, approximately 55% or 210 MWh was used directly by the campus. The remaining 180 MWh was exported to the net. To increase the own consumption of the solar energy as well as to contribute to a stable electricity grid, Thomas More wishes a battery energy storage system (Beos), including inverter, battery management system (BMS ) & Energy management system (EMS) to be purchased and installed. An additional objective of this project is to link energy efficiency to circularity. The "circular economy" is a model of production and consumption in which the lifespan of materials and products is extended to the maximum, and the use of primary raw materials is avoided as much as possible. That is why the maximum is used for recycling, recovery and reuse. This is why this beos therefore consists of recovered lithium-ion batteries (eg from electric vehicles).
