Description:
The STIB implements a metro modernization and extension program (PMM), the perimeter of which concerns the metro network in the Brussels Capital Region. This program is materializing, among other things, the implementation of a mobile cantons signaling system that uses CBTC (Communication Based Train Control) technology. This allows the automatic driving of metros, namely the UTOTEDED Train Operation), comprising for this purpose also a system of platform facades in the stations. In parallel, the Stib is occupied in the construction of the new metro 3 line , which consists on the one hand in the adaptation of the existing tunnel of the Albert station at the Gare du Nord station; and on the other hand to the construction of a new section between the Stations Gare du Nord and Bordet. These projects are the subject of separate and coordinated programs. These civil engineering works must of course be equipped with the same transport system as that which is being commissioned within the framework of the metro modernization program.
