- Animal welfare is an increasingly important theme within modern livestock farming, partly due to social concern about intensive production systems. Economic and environmental objectives, such as emission reduction and efficient use of space, are often placed above the well-being of animals. Technological Environmental measures, such as air washers in herbal, can negatively influence animal welfare. On the other hand, animal welfare measures, such as slow -growing broiler chickens, can have environmental parts. These contradictions make it clear that integrated solutions, taking into account Economic factors and use of space are needed to unite both aspects. The aim of the public contract is to give an overview of the current knowledge about the relationship between animal welfare and the environment in livestock farming. In addition, the assignment aims at the gaps in existing literature to map and prepare realistic policy recommendations. The public contract is part of the Animal Welfare policy area, "the needs of the animal" are always taken as a starting point.
