Description:
UAntwerp-ELCAT aspires to design and build a modular electrolysis pilot at TRL7, which is intended for the electrochemical conversion of CO2 to primarily CO. This TRL7 prototype electrolyzer is constructed within the framework of the Horizon Europe - Twin Transition Threading-CO2 project (https://www.aspire2050.eu/ThreadingCO2). The entire property will belong to UAntwerp-ELCAT and will be (initially) installed at the BlueApp premises. This pilot will encompass all of the infrastructure and components required to test the direct electrochemical conversion of CO2 and obtain a 30 kg/h CO output as showcase within the Threading-CO2 project. As such the envisaged pilot will be larger than any known system currently available in Europe and will be modular such that different target products can be obtained and operation is possible within a broad window of operating conditions.
